After a good drive from Darwin, the Daly River team arrived there late morning and spent most of the day getting to know the kids and the sport and development officers. A few of the role models jumped right in and hit the sporting fields with the kids, catching up with some familiar faces and meeting lots of new ones. The second day at the school was focused on the music program, with education and sport activities revolving around it. The kids have a breakfast program and do a walk or some physical activity before school starts. The morning focused on getting the kids confident with Adam and Glenn’s Muso Magic program and getting the song written. Recording of the song began in the afternoon. Linley, naturally, took the Nauiyu kids swimming for the first session and Woolianna school kids for the second, while Kyle and rest of the team did some athletics activities with the kids. Day three at the Woolianna School the team conducted classroom sessions, focusing on making healthy choices. They purchased food from the local store and talked about food, fat and sugar content, and got the kids to make healthy meal selections with the food that was available. A drug and alcohol education session was run at the same time. Later sessions that day included further sport and activity sessions with the team and kids. Day four was spent by most of the team going barramundi fishing on Daly River. Adam and Glenn did the artwork with the Daly River kids for the CD cover. Later there was a community BBQ, where the song and music clip were presented for the first time to the kids and community. Day five was the flag raising ceremony and Health Expo at the school. There were plenty of fun activities for the kids. Food hopscotch, apple bobbing, food quizzes and colouring competitions. The flag raising was attended by a senator and there were indigenous dancers. The kids performed their song live and then got to show the DVD off to family and the community members that had not seen it at the end of the formalities. The team departed early afternoon for Darwin, exhausted but enthusiastic after another fantastic visit to Daly River.
