Special day in Daly River showcases Role Model's art

Jamie Whincup, Raymond Walters Japanangka and Craig Lowndes Red Dust was proud to help show off one of Team Vodafone’s special V8 Supercars at Nauiyu earlier this month. The Ford, one of two driven by Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup, made a striking presence both at Daly River and at the Hidden Valley race, with both cars sporting the work of artist Raymond Walters Japanangka. The artwork was painted specially for Red Dust by Raymond to signify the work Red Dust does to bring cultures together, and was brilliantly replicated on the Team Vodafone cars.

The Nauiyu event at Daly River involved Team Vodafone drivers Lowndes and Whincup, who were happy to help promote Red Dust Role Models, along with representatives of Vodafone Australia Foundation, our key Australian funding partner. Lowndes and Whincup spoke to community members about safe driving and healthy living, and provided lots of thrills by allowing everyone to have a go sitting behind the wheel of a Supercar.

Everyone pitched in and enjoyed a delicious barbecue to cap off the day. Special thanks go to the community’s Sport and Rec officer, Rose, who led this effort for Red Dust and went above and beyond to make it a success.

Before hopping back on the plane (many thanks to Vincent Aviation for their support in this area), the Team Vodafone guys wore their fingers out signing posters and hats for everyone. Their time and effort to make the day a special one is greatly appreciated by all at Red Dust, and we thank them and our friends at Vodafone Australia Foundation for their invaluable support.

Vodafone Australia Foundation reinforced their support by selling the bonnet and one door of the special Supercar on eBay, and donating the proceeds to Red Dust. Further donations were made from the proceeds of the sale of a specially designed shirt that featured a motif of Raymond's painting. Supplies of the shirt sold out on the same day of their release, which is an unprecedented result for special merchandise. Our thanks again to VAF and all who purchased these items in support of Red Dust.
