The people of Areyonga are of the Pitjantjatjara tribal group with a few Arrernte and Walpiri who have joined the Community through marriage. The total population is around 217 people. The country has been reserved for Aboriginals, although natural mineral resources have been exploited from time to time. Areyonga does not experience major seasonal movement of population between other Communities and Urban centres. The relative permanence of the core groups provides stability in management of community affairs and lifestyle. Its relationship with other communities is essentially on the basis of visiting related families. The people of Areyonga, Mutitjulu and Docker River are all related Pitjantjatjara people. Housing: Rental rates of $20.00 per week apply. Five adults and three children are the average per household. Banking Infrastructure: The community has no banking facilities, however the Council Office provides assistance with phone and internet banking to community members unable to manage these themselves.. Mail: The mail service comes by plane every Wednesday. Electricity: There is an established power station. All homes have metre card boxes of which a metre card can be purchased from the community store. Water: Is serviced by the community bores. Sewerage: The septic tanks were replaced by a $1.6 million sewerage settlement ponds in 1999. Community Services include: Administration Building with Centrelink Agency and Post Office. Hacc Services, Recreation Hall, Swimming Pool, Health Clinic, School, Community Store, Out of school hours programs, Lutheran Church, motor vehicle service facility, weekly air service, sports oval.
