Areyonga

Areyonga is located in the Southern Region of the NT, approximately 240 kms west south west of Alice Springs, on the eastern portion of the Haasts Bluff Land Trust. The people of Areyonga are of the Pitjantjatjara tribal group with a few Arrernte and Walpiri who have joined the Community through marriage.

The total population is around 217 people.

The country has been reserved for Aboriginals, although natural mineral resources have been exploited from time to time. Areyonga does not experience major seasonal movement of population between other Communities and Urban centres. The relative permanence of the core groups provides stability in management of community affairs and lifestyle. Its relationship with other communities is essentially on the basis of visiting related families. The people of Areyonga, Mutitjulu and Docker River are all related Pitjantjatjara people.

Community Services include: Administration Building with Centrelink Agency and Post Office. Hacc Services, Recreation Hall, Swimming Pool, Health Clinic, School, Community Store, Out of school hours programs, Lutheran Church, motor vehicle service facility, weekly air service, sports oval.
