Unable to visit Daly River earlier in our Top End tour due to severe flooding, the Red Dust team was keen to catch up with our friends at Woolianna School and St Francis Xavier School, as well as in the community. Some on the team were on their third visit, and were pleased to hear their names - and nicknames - shouted loudly when the team drove into Nauiyu. Here are some highlights from the visit: Nauiyu is a community nestled on the banks of the Daly River, about a 2½ -hour drive from Darwin in the Top End. The traditional owners of the area are the Malak Malak people. Population: approximately 300-400 Schools: St Francis Xavier School and Woolianna Primary School Students Participating: approximately 80 Programs Delivered: Music, Healthy Body (nutrition and exercise activities), Goal Setting, Sport (athletics, basketball and organized games) Highlights of Visit: ∙ Almost 100% attendance at Woolianna School! ∙ The fantastic welcome by students and teachers, and once again the warm hospitality from Petrina and James at Woolianna ∙ The powerful unity created by joining students from both schools to make another terrific song, ‘The Meeting Place' ...plus the fact that all the students could remember - and sing - the songs they had previously written with Red Dust ∙ The enthusiastic input by students in the Goal Setting activities ∙ James' pancake breakfast on the Barbie ∙ Camping at Litchfield National Park - a great team-builder!
