Kintore, Mutitjulu and Areyonga
Tour report:

Our Central Desert tour kicked off in Alice Springs, with the teams preparing for long drives and looking forward to seeing familiar faces in the three communities. 

Kintore (Walungurru)

School:  Walungurru Primary

Students Participating:  10 + approximately 50 attending the football carnival

Programs Delivered: Music, Healthy Body (nutrition activities), Sport (football)

Highlights: 

∙ Creating a new Kintore song, ‘Do The Right Thing' that conveyed some great positive messages about saying ‘no' to drugs and alcohol

∙ Great classroom activities focusing on nutrition and literacy, with word association games, creating fruit and veggie mobiles and the kids making their own veggie soup for morning tea

∙ Participating in the football carnival at Kiwirrkurra (with Kintore Hawks winning the Grand Final!)

 

Areyonga (Utju)

School:  Areyonga School

Students Participating: approximately 50-60

Programs Delivered:  Drama/Dance, Healthy Body (nutrition and exercise activities), Sport (basketball, softball , rugby and organized games)

Highlights:

∙ Introducing some new Red Dust faces to our friends at Areyonga

∙ Teaching AFL-mad kids about the finer points of the other footy (rugby)

∙ Showing enthusiastic students how creative expression through drama and dance can contribute to a healthy lifestyle

 

Mutitjulu

School:  Mutitjulu School and Nyangatjatjara Secondary College

Students Participating: approximately 25 + 10 girls at Ng College

Programs Delivered:  Art, Cultural Dance, Healthy Body (nutrition and food activities), Healthy Mind (self-esteem activities) and Sport (softball, rugby and basketball)

Highlights:

∙ Introducing cultural dance and storytelling activities, with sensational didgeridoo playing and a bit of Irish dancing to go with it

∙ Engaging art sessions that saw local ladies joining in and sharing their talents and input - and which also opened the lines of communication between the school and the community

∙ Another fantastic healthy sandwich making session - and more edible masterpieces!

∙ The opportunity to meet with the community council and strengthen relationships
