All hands on deck for Areyonga Primary School's mural!
The school values at Areyonga Primary have been immortalised in a brand new mural which engaged the students in its design, development and creation.
The school lives by three key messages.
Ngaltunytju – Proud
Pukulpa – Caring
Pukultju – Kind
Utju School not only embraces these values but embeds them into its curriculum every day. And it's achieving results.
Red Dust once again returned to the community, bringing with them one simple goal: to help capture and create the students' imagination and bring it to life.
“I want to be a Red Dust when I am older, I want to teach kids new skills, I could speak in language, have an office in Utju with the Red Dust Crew”
Naomi, 9 years old
The mural was a project that took place over the course of the entire program, starting with sketches on the iPad, which were then transferred onto the wall via a projector during the evening. The younger students drew the butterflies which represented each person individually and their own transformation as they grow. Using vibrant colours is reflective of the warmth, spriti and energy of the school itself, one that supports its students health and wellbeing, both physically and mentally. From start to finish the mural took seven days, and is something we so happy to be a part of creating.

In what felt like a full-circle moment, former students of Areyonga Primary, who now attend Unity College in South Australia, were back in Utju the same week that Red Dust were there. Having them help out in programs that week was a beautiful moment for everyone involved and gave younger students access to the senior students' leadership.
Red Dust has worked with and supported students from Unity College since they first enrolled at Areyonga School.
The college is based in South Australia, which means the students from there leave their community during the school terms for secondary education and return to Utju during the school holidays.
These relationships are at the core of Red Dust's mission and values, and it is a privilege to be a part of their journeys from pre-schoolers to young adults.
Red Dust relies on community partners, supporters, and champions who believe in the power of positive role models. Explore how you can contribute—through collaboration, sponsorship, or simply by sharing our work.
