Aspiration Live Here: It's local and it's growing together with our impact

Aspiration isn’t abstract for where Red Dust works—it’s local, lived and inspired. Today, we're celebrating the people shaping strong futures with the release of our 2025 Annual Review.

Across communities, these stories highlight a simple truth: when programs are co-designed and locally led, aspiration turns into action—into jobs, pride, learning, and opportunities that ripple through families and across generations.

In recent years, we’ve seen more community members step into paid roles, lead planning and delivery, and guide the next phase of our work.

“Thank you for employing me as community liaison and facilitator. I want to do it every time Red Dust comes back.”

That desire to lead—again and again—underscores why Aspiration is one of our key goals. It represents pathways that are real, respected, and recurring.

You’ll also hear the pride that comes with visible leadership.

“It makes us proud wearing the Red Dust shirt and running our own program.”

Uniforms don’t make a program—but they can symbolize responsibility, trust, and community confidence. When local leaders set the pace, young people see a future they can step into.

That’s happening right now. In one conversation after a youth session, we heard the next chapter clearly.

“Young men expressed interest in being contracted by Red Dust next year.”

It’s a short sentence with a big message—aspiration becomes meaningful employment, and meaningful employment becomes sustained local capacity.

When employment supports health and wellbeing you find:

  • Local leadership in action—liaisons, facilitators, and youth leaders taking the mic and the marker, leading sessions in culture, health, and wellbeing.
  • Skills turning into jobs—training translating to paid work, with returning opportunities that build confidence and consistency.
  • Youth pathways—young people moving from participants to volunteers to contracted staff.
  • Co-design that sticks—programs shaped with Elders, families, and schools so they reflect community priorities.
  • Pride and identity—visible roles that honour culture and show young people that leadership looks like them.

These stories reflect a bigger picture you’ll see in our 2025 Annual Review, which we’re proud to launch today. The Review shares what worked, what we learned, and what we’re committed to strengthening next:

  • more community-led delivery and employment pathways
  • stronger training and mentoring for emerging local staff
  • deeper school, family, and sport partnerships to keep engagement high
  • clearer pathways from short-term roles to recurring contracts
  • transparent reporting on outcomes and the voices that guide our direction.

Aspiration is our committment to listen, learn and dream.

When someone says, “I want to do it every time Red Dust comes back,” we hear a call to create meaningful and dependable, paid opportunities. When young men tell us they want to work in partnership with us next year, we hear readiness—and our responsibility to meet it with training, support, and pathways that last.

  • Aspiration starts local. It lives in Country, in classrooms, on courts and ovals, and in community spaces where people feel safe and strong.
  • Aspiration grows with trust. Roles that recognise local knowledge build momentum and keep talent in community.
  • Aspiration needs a bridge. Training, mentoring, and clear next steps turn interest into employment and leadership.

None of this happens without partnership. To everyone who has co-designed sessions, taken on new roles, opened doors for youth, and backed the work—thank you. Your belief in community leadership is what makes these stories possible.

As we look ahead, our focus is steady: keep building local employment opportunities, keep pathways clear, keep listening, and keep celebrating the leaders who make aspiration visible.

We invite you to read our 2025 Annual Review to see what we've achieved and we’re headed—together.

Aspiration is real and it's achievable. In each story you’ll see it—and in every step we take with your support - we can grow it.
