Since our inception Community has driven the ways we work and shaped the essence of who we have become.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes when our teams are putting together their programs, but for the last twenty years there’s always been one thing that remains at the forefront of these decisions. Family. Step inside our community as family model to find out what that means and why it remains integral in the work we do.
Our Community-as-Family health model provides a modern framework for program service delivery in remote and urban communities of the Northern Territory (NT).
It fosters sustainable service development through inclusive consultation and a commitment to local capacity building. By tapping into established relationships - be it family, kinship, cultural, socio-historical, or language groups - it uses a strengths-based approach to inform and elevate our service delivery.
Our mission: Red Dust takes a community-as-family approach, working side by side with Elders and local leaders to support the health and wellbeing of young people in remote Aboriginal communities. By keeping programs community-led and culturally grounded — like Healthy Living and Strong Young Men and Strong Young Women — the focus is on building confidence, strengthening identity, and creating real, lasting change.
Locally empowered: It’s about connection, culture, and giving young people the tools to lead healthy, strong futures. By employing First Nations program coordinators and backing local leadership, we help create meaningful job opportunities and ensure programs are truly community-owned.
We believe in nurturing local workers with employment, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, enabling them to inspire positive change within themselves, each other and their communities.
Working with Elders: We work closely with local Elders, valuing their knowledge and guidance to make sure everything we do honours and strengthens cultural identity.
Walking alongside: Rather than taking a top-down approach, we take the time to listen first. We work alongside communities to co-design programs together, making sure local voices shape every step. By building genuine relationships and trust, we help create a supportive, family-like environment where young people respected and heard.
When you help Red Dust, you instantly become part of our growing family. By donating, not only does your contribution get recognised but it allows us to continue delivering family led programs in remote communities across Australia. Join us in creating a legacy that we're proud of for the next 20 years!
