Behind the scenes with Red Dust and The Kintore Kungkas

The Kungkas were keen to form a band. The first women's band from Walungurru.

Walungurru (Kintore) lies 6 hours drive west of Alice Springs, almost on the border with Western Australia. It is home of the Pintupi peoples.

The Kungkas were keen to write a song with a strong message for the younger girls coming through.

They were also keen to form a band to play the song, a difficult task as most of them had no experience playing instruments.

The young women spent a day on Country to gather ideas for their song.

With the fire to keep them warm, the nourishment of a feed of rootail and bush foods, the words started to roll.

The women started singing their lyrics and playing instruments in the Green Shed.

Cheryl was on the drums. Roseanna worked hard on the bass. Karey played the keys. Zinata provided the edge on the guitar. Cindy nailed the lead vocals.

Then it was time to record. All the women sung too.

With the recording process complete, the Kungkas performed their song for the video.

Trying new things is a great way to help identify your passion and strengths.

With your support we can work together with remote communities to build on the strengths of young women in their community.
