A voice for the future
Red Dust is supportive of a First Nations Voice to Parliament and what it represents for the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This view is based on hope — that is both symbolic and actionable.
Hope that inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the foundation of our nation provides a meaningful path to reverse the effects of policies that have caused inter-generational trauma and ongoing tragedy and grief.
Hope for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and future generations who will ultimately benefit from a First Nations Voice to Parliament.
We respect the diversity within the Red Dust workforce and within the communities in which we work, live and play. Our consultation has identified different views and the importance of those perspectives to this referendum.
We recognise the consultation process that led to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a call for a Voice to Parliament was extensive and came from First Nations peoples.
We are confident that the proposed question for the referendum provides enough detail to enable the establishment of a mechanism that will enable First Nations peoples to be consulted on laws and policies that impact the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples.
The Australian story has reached a significant milestone that can have the single most positive impact on the lives of First Nations peoples in our nation’s history.
We look forward to Australia embracing all the initiatives that will deliver practical Reconciliation for all.
