International Women’s Day: Count Her In

International Women’s Day is marked annually on March 8th.

It is a global celebration that recognises and honors the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women, while also promoting awareness about women's equality.

This year, the theme for International Women’s Day is 'Count Her In' aiming to create a more inclusive world for women by uplifting and empowering them.

At Red Dust, we are dedicated to inclusivity and amplifying the voices of all women, particularly advocating for Aboriginal Women in community to ensure that their needs and perspectives are expressed and shared appropriately. Within our organisation, our Strong Young Women’s program focuses on strengthening the identity and cultural connections of young women, while also supporting their aspirations through a trauma-informed approach. Programming encourages healing and provides two-way learning and education.

The history of International Women’s Day dates back over a century, during which it served as a platform for advocating change and promoting gender parity. In 1911, International Women’s Day was honoured for the first time, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, with over 1 million attendees.

Despite the progress and shifts in society, women still face many complex challenges on the path to achieving gender parity. However, every single day offers an opportunity for all individuals to contribute to positive change and strive towards a future that is inclusive for everyone.
